The route matters. You finding the bottle becomes part of the story, and each report helps build the public map of Driftworks Series I.
Keep the painting with my thanks, along with a personal invitation to visit the studio someday.
Public art release · Winterport, Maine · Summer 2026
Six small original oil paintings sealed inside bottles and released into the Penobscot River from Winterport, Maine.

Original paintings released directly to the forces of nature.
Driftworks Series I is an experiment in surrendering original art to the river. Each painting began in the studio as a small river study from my view here during different times of the year, then entered a bottle with a short note inviting the finder to become part of the magic.
With this project the tide is the curator, wind as installer, shoreline as gallery wall, and the eventual finder as the final hand in the exhibit of the paintings.
Inside each sealed bottle is one original painting, a hand written message, and a special invitation. A bottle might be found quickly, travel far, return to marsh grass, wash onto a beach, or disappear into the river legend forever.
Art released to the forces of nature.
Six small oil paintings of the river were created as original works.
Each work has a unique name and was paired with a note and a special invitation for the finder.
The bottles were corked and properly sealed with red wax making each bottle a tiny floating art time capsule.
This first fleet entered the Penobscot River from Winterport, Maine on June 21st, 2026 at maximum high tide.
Finders are encouraged to send the painting name, location, date, and photos back to Cliffwind Studio.
Ledger updated as bottles are found.
When a finder sends the painting name, date, location, and photo, this log will be updated revealing each individual work as they resurface.
